Right Rug For Your Space

Right Rug For Your Space

Choosing the right mat

Decorating or decorating a home can be a really fun, uplifting experience or a real nightmare. The latter only happens if you are not well organized and do not know the things you need to buy to make your home look like the dream place you have had in your mind for so long. Since you are on this blog, it means that you are not one of those fellas who leave things to the case but you actually take responsibility for what you want to accomplish, I love it! I am also glad that you are aware of how important it is to have a rug that suits your location. Without it, no matter how nice your place is, there will always be something missing.

Still, you are not sure how to choose the right one. Well, here are some tips to help you find a piece that will perfectly complement the rest of your room.

Size

Do not listen to what they say – size plays a role in (almost) all spheres of life and the same goes for carpets and rugs. There are a few tricks to be aware of when choosing the carpet for your space.

Depending on what you want to achieve, you choose between three sizes – small, medium and large. The rule is to always follow the overall atmosphere of the room and furniture you have in place.

Here are some options:

  1. Choose a mat that is just under all the furniture and serves as a type of base for it. It should be lined with the back of the sofa bed
  2. Choose two smaller / medium-sized carpets that would visually break the large room into two and create a sitting area and a cooling area, for example (where you would put a sofa bed and a small table)
  3. Choose an intermediate mat that you place in the middle of the room and keep the furniture centered around it
  4. Choose extra-large carpet that goes from wall to wall for a more vintage, "tucked in" style

Color and style

Color and style are one of the central features when choosing the carpet for your location. Depending on the tone and style you go for, you can choose:

  1. Carpets that match in color with the color of walls or furniture. This way you achieve cohesion and make the place look warmer. Still, don't overdo it with the matchy-matchy vibe – you don't want the room to feel like a certain color exploded in there! If you want some matching pieces, look for the rug to match the color of accessories, furniture or the walls.
  2. The style of the carpet you choose should be in line with your furniture. If you have antique furniture, don't buy a modern rug. Still, if the tone of the room is trendy and modern, a modern rug is just what you need! No matter how much you like to experiment (and I support a creative mind!), Don't make a gypsy party from your room. Keep it fantastic but still elegant and warm.

NOTE: This is what my wife and I did to the living room. The overall tone is eggshell (my wife is crazy for simple colors while I like to spice it up a bit, so we've made a compromise!) But we've decided that we'll give it an exciting element – we painted a wall emerald blue! We then bought a modern carpet of the same color. That is, the mat base is emerald with some interesting shapes in different colors. The shapes do not appear on the face because there is a coffee table over the carpet, but it matches the wall so perfectly that the whole room feels like a whole new space!
We threw in some pillows in the color of the carpet and the wall to complement the room. We hung pictures on the wall (we call it the main wall now) to give it balance with the rest of the room. Everything looks absolutely fantastic. Maybe you can try it too?

fabrics

There are a number of opportunities today. Natural fabrics (woven from fiber extracted from plants), Dhurries and kilims (flat woven wool and cotton, usually reversible), tufted, distressed and over dyed rugs (known for their one type of finish) – make your choice! Remember that no matter how much you like the design of a rug, you also need it to be practical for maintenance.
