Incorporate Glass Tile in Your Kitchen

Glass tiles can be integrated into your kitchen to provide beauty and creative style. Whatever your décor style or color preference, you will be able to find a glass plate that suits you. Here are seven ideas for adding glass tiles to your kitchen.

For ideas 1-5 below, you may want to use a process similar to this one for the glass plate application. Glue tile pieces on the selected surface. Then use grouting and push it between all washers. Wipe the glass and edges free of grout with a damp sponge. Allow this to dry completely, so you have a wonderful new addition to your kitchen.

1. Breakfast compartment
Take some breakfast tray, one you have on hand, or one you pick up at the thrift store, and get creative. Paint the tray so that it matches your glass plate and then place the tiles on the inside of the tray that completely covers it. Set a date and invite friends to brunch to show off your sweet tray.

2. Potted plant
Use a square or rectangle pot, apply tiles around the outside for a fun accent in your kitchen. You can apply trays on one side and spray paint the other, or apply trays on all sides to make the pot really stand out.

3. Mirror
Mount a small mirror on a larger MDF placemat, in whatever form you want. Add tile treatment to only the surrounding board. Use the mirror as a statement piece on an empty wall in your kitchen.

4. Table top
Get out by using glass plates to cover a whole table top! Or just cover a console table if you want to start small. What a great way to add color to any room.

5. Frames
You can apply glass plates to frames; big or small. Large, tiled frames in glass can be hung on a wall, and small, tiled frames in glass can be used as a centerpiece or to decorate a side table. Another unique idea would be to place a tile in glass as part of the decoration above the cabinets (if your cabinets do not go all over the ceiling).

6. Coaster
For this project you can buy a glass of glass plates of your choice, cut a piece in size and mount it on the corkscrew. Fill it with grout, wipe it off and allow it to dry. Repeat until you have the number of coasters you want.

7. Backsplash

The backplate in a kitchen can really set the tone for the kitchen workspace you are in. A good backplate helps you feel more comfortable in your kitchen environment. Glass tiles usually go well as an accent to other stones in a backsplash, but a whole glass tile surface fits well with some Mediterranean, Caribbean and tropical styles.

8. Chandelier
Let your creativity take over! You can start by finding a chandelier at a thrift store or farm sale. Replace beads or crystals with glass plates. If you are knowledgeable about design, you can build a chandelier in glass plates from the beginning! The possibilities are endless.
