How to Decorate Your Living Room for a Thanksgiving Gathering

While many decorate for Halloween, they often mistakenly believe that the next holiday to decorate for is Christmas. Truth be told, you can create beautiful decor for the Thanksgiving season as well. Start with a living room room. You probably spend a good amount of time in it and it can use some refreshing. Consider the following ways you can prepare it for a Thanksgiving collection.

Follow a skirt theme

If you don't know where to start, think about the harvest and what the fall looks like. This means that you will want to insert autumn-colored leaves instead of bright, violet-leaved figs. You want to include pumpkins, lanterns and cones. It can be a matter of literally putting these objects into tasteful groups on tables or racks, but it can also mean that autumn's art and decorations for the walls are produced. Consider making a bouquet of autumn leaves instead of flowers to put on your mantelpiece.

First add decor to the contact points

You can create a fantastic center for the coffee table where a lantern is in the middle with some lights. Create a wreath that surrounds the lantern with interesting pieces like real cones, tinsel and faux hay. There are lots of tutorials on how to create the perfect case centerpiece. If you have a fireplace in the living room, use the mantle as a great place to create a focal point. Add faux leaves, a runner and some candles to knit the top of the mantle. You can also add some faux pumpkins to the sides of the stove. Just make sure you have an open screen protector to prevent things from falling inside and causing fire risk.

Consider festive window treatments

Window treatments can be lots of fun. Buy some window decals of autumn leaves and other messages such as "Happy Thanksgiving" for the windows in the living room. Decorate the curtain stacks with tassels in autumn colors. These small decorations can add a color that is usually seen from the outside, which will serve to introduce your guests to your theme before they ever train inside.

Use complementary colors

If the entire living room is completely white, make sure the autumn decorations can complement the background. It's always okay to paint your pumpkins in a different color to maintain the look of the theme. If your living room is pink, choose deep redness and reddish-brown colors to create a moody, autumn theme in the room. When you choose the darker versions of the colors you already have in your living room, it becomes easier to create a fantastic and complementary look. Decorate miniature pumpkins and pinecones with unusual colors and even tinsel – autumn doesn't just mean reds, oranges and browns!

When applying these tips to your living room, remember to do some research as well. You can look at what others are doing to decorate for Thanksgiving by looking up images on sites like this one. Search decor on hashtags on Instagram for some inspiration as well. After you finish your Thanksgiving decor, remember to take pictures to commemorate the first time you decorate for Thanksgiving.
